An award presentation ceremony for the 25th SEA Write Award 2010 was held recently in Bangkok, Thailand.
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand consented to present the award on November 5 at Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.
For Brunei Darussalam, the prestigious award went to Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Dr Hj Awg Mohd Jamil Al-Sufri Begawan Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Seri Paduka Hj Umar or better known in his writing as Wijaya.
Wijaya was among eight other recipients from the 10-Asean countries to be given the recognition. He is famous for his collection of poetry entitiled 'Renungan' published by the Malay and Language Literature Bureau. He is also a prominent local writer in the field of literature, history, culture and religion and has been so active in these fields since 1940s.
SEA Write Award or the South East Asian Writers Awards, established to honour leading poets and writers in the Asean region. It is aimed at recognising the creativity of writers from countries in the region; creating a wider awareness and understanding of literary wealth amongst the 10-Asean countries; honouring and promoting the literary talents of the Asean creative writers and also bring together the many talents of Asean writers.
