Five secondary schools and colleges in the Tutong District last night competed in the Dikir Syarafil Anam competition organised by Mahad Islam Brunei in conjunction with His Majesty's birthday celebrations.

The guest of honour, Md Faizul Azuwan bin Haji Ahim, Assistant Head of Tutong Religious Office, presented the prizes.

The dikir included Bisyahrin, Al-Hamdu, Khairuman and Badat.

The male category was won by Mahad Islam Brunei, which scored 92.5 per cent. The women's category was won by Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School, which obtained 95.5 per cent, beating Sayyidina Othman Secondary School.

Ustazah Hajah Hamdiah, Acting Principal of Mahad Islam Brunei, said the competition was also aimed to preserve the heritage and to encourage the students to learn the dikir.

The competition was held in the canopy area of Pasarneka Kampung Serambangun.

Each school was represented by six students who were judged based on fasahah, voice and types of presentation.
