SMARTER Brunei yesterday conducted a group activity at a popular fast food joint in Gadong as part of their Community Adaptation Programme named 'Going to McDonald's.'

The programme involved the participation of Individuals With Autism (IWAs) together with their families and therapists. Leading the way were activity coordinators T Juliet C Penaflor and T Teresa Espiritu.

The main objective of this activity focused on integrating the concepts learnt such as sitting and waiting, decision-making and social etiquette skills while dining at a restaurant.

It also improves their social and communication skills as they are exposed to a real community setting. This in turn raises community awareness on individuals with autism and vice versa.
