The blogging scene has been seen to shift focus over the years from a realm of small-scale personal entries or commentaries to that of corporate entries that are increasingly indistinguishable from the media.

One local blogger, Kamarul Dzaman Hj Ajimain, is the only Bruneian to be selected as one of the eight finalists for the Borneo Bloggers Awards. He was picked as finalist under the Tech & Web category for his website,

The Borneo Bloggers Awards is hosted by Borneo Colours, an International New Media and Community Portal. Other categories in which the other finalists were listed include Personal, Travel, Food, Photography, Entertainment and Art & Design. Most of the finalists comprised bloggers from the neighbouring Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak.

In an interview with the Bulletin, Kamarul spoke of how his blogging background and his interest in online entries began.

"I started blogging around 2002. Back then blogs were mostly on personal stuff and so was mine. I didn't have any particular target audience so most of the readers were my friends," he said.

"After a couple of years, I started a food blog called Whatiate2day where I basically shared and posted what my daily meals from various restaurants in Brunei as well as overseas (were)."

The result will be announced on October 16, 2010 from which the Top Borneo Blogger will walk away with RM$10,000. The final round event will coincide with another event called B2.0: Borneo Bloggers & New Media Dialogue, a gathering of bloggers and new media practitioners that will be the first of its kind in Borneo.
