The first IRO was held in Kaist, Daejon, Korea back in 1999. This is the second time Brunei will be participating in the event. The first took place last year and was hosted by Singapore.
Amongst the objectives of the IRO are to offer an exchange platform for all like-minded international participants to network and share skills, ideas and creativeness whilst providing students with the opportunity to compete with their overseas contemporaries and encourage ingenuity amongst students as well as nurture their interest in Robotics.
Robot Olympiad is an event for science, technology and education aimed at offering promising youngsters an opportunity to expand their horizons by designing and building robot models and experiencing the robotic world.
The Brunei delegation is led by Awg Azahan Hj Abd Wahab and accompanied by supervising teachers Awg Samri Hj Jumat and Muhd Alinormin Hj Omarali.
Representatives for the Primary level are Khairul Amirul Md Adnani, Md Aiman Hafizulakram Md Waffe and Muhd Najib Abd Manaf while Abd Malek Manap, Siti Nursakinah Afiqah Zulkifli and Amiratul Akmal Alimin are representing the secondary level.
Participating teams representing the sultanate emerged as champions in the Brunei Robotic Olympiad (BRO) 2008 for the primary level while the secondary level representatives were champions of the National level competition organised by STEP Centre on August 28.
The competition will be held at the University Islam Antarabangsa, Kuala Lumpur commencing today until December 21. The Bruneian teams will partake in the Legged Robot, Rolling Ball Maze and Cart Rolling Maze Solving.
