Dr Sheryn Kaye Von Senden, wife to the Minister for National Development of the Republic of Singapore, Mah Bow Tan, visited Kampong Ayer yesterday as part of her tour in Brunei.

Dr Sheryn Kaye Von Senden was accompanied by about 10 persons, including the wives of senior officers from the Ministry of Development. The wives of the Minister of Development, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Development and Singapore's High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam were also part of the entourage. Also present were government personnel and officers from the Ministry of Development.

The visit started off with a river cruise on the Brunei River, which showcased Kampong Ayer and gave the visitors a chance to see the traditional Bruneian way of life up close.

The cruise ended at the Mini Museum located in Kampong Saba, belonging to Hj Mahmud Mohamad. The Mini Museum showcases his own collection of antiquities that he has gathered over the years, which give glimpses into Brunei's past.

Among the items were traditional household articles such as irons, old cameras and televisions, pottery, ceramics and other objects, which piqued the visitors' interest.

As Dr Sheryn Kaye Von Senden and the other visitors toured the Mini Museum, Hj Mahmud Mohamad was on hand to provide anecdotes about the displays' historical backgrounds.

The visit was one of the many activities scheduled during the Singaporean Minister's and his wife's three-day working visit to Brunei.
