An official key handover ceremony for the new surau for Bangar Camp, Temburong District was held yesterday at the camp. A mock key was presented by a representative of Foundation Construction and Engineering Sdn Bhd to the Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Defence Policy and Development) at the Ministry of Defence, Pg Hj Menudin bin Pengiran Lela Wijaya Pg Hj Yussof, who then handed it over to the Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Forces, Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Hj Yussof bin Hj Abd Rahman.

Also present to witness the ceremony were officers and personnel from the Directorate of Development and Work Services (DDWS), Religious Section Office, Directorate of Administration and Manpower, Ministry of Defence and the Royal Brunei Land Forces.

The surau is meant to uphold one of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces' (RBAF) 'Taqwa' values and to support Brunei's establishment as a Zikir Nation. This was clearly demonstrated during the Khatam Al-Quran held in May in conjunction with the 51st anniversary of the RBAF.

The construction of the surau came under the Infrastructure Development Plan of Bangar Camp, Temburong. The building is approximately 305 square metres and can accommodate 200 individuals. The design is based on a traditional Islamic concept, whereby the Central Dome and Minaret Dome are covered with green glazed mosaic tiles. Facilities available at the surau are the imam's office, bilal's office, male and female restrooms and ablution areas, women's prayer area and the main prayer hall. The project cost B$618,399.00 and was completed on May 3.
