The Brunei-Muara District IV Primary School Chess Tournament 2012 was competed and concluded at Sekolah Rendah (SR) Jerudong, with Md Syafiq bin Abd Rahman of Sekolah Rendah Lumapas emerging as the eventual overall winner.
The 13 schools that competed in the one-day tournament were SR Sengkurong, SR Masin, SR Bengkurong, SR Junjongan, SR Putat, SR Mulaut, SR Kasat, SR Panglima Barudin Limau Manis, SR Pengkalan Batu, SR Lumapas, SR Panchor Murai, SR Bebuloh and SR AHMY Katimahar.
Over 70 students competed during the tournament, which consisted of each player playing a total of seven games in the Swiss system format, which would then be tallied by the judges, who determined the final points tally of each participant.
Md Syafiq finished the day with seven points, one ahead of his nearest opponents, Abd Munzil Mazlan of Sekolah Rendah Jerudong in second with six points. Third place was won by Omarali Hamzah bin Mohidin of Sekolah Rendah Junjongan, also on six points, but lost out by three points based on the Buchholz system, with a BH score of 26 as opposed to Abd Munzil Mazlan's 29.
