A personal trainer from local fitness club Harun's Gym, emerged champion in the Light Heavyweight (75kg and above) category at the Mr Miri 2007 held in Miri, recently.
The competition, organised annually by the Miri Body Builder Association was participated by body builders from throughout Sarawak.
Eddie Chan said he had only made last minute preparations before going to the contest.
"I just wanted to try and gain some exposure," said the 25-year-old. "I wasn't even expecting to win."
He brought home a trophy, certificate, food hampers and food supplements.
Further to his success, Eddie was selected by the Miri Body Builder Association Committee to compete in the Mr Sarawak competition to be held this Sunday. He is also looking forward to compete at Mr X - Trim 2007 to be held in August this year in Miri.
Eddie said his first appearance in competition was at the 1st Harun Classic Open Competition in Brunei, where he won second place in the same category. The competition was participated by bodybuilders from throughout Borneo.
He also hopes to maintain and upgrade his capability at the Harun Classic Open (Heavyweight Category) to be held next year in Brunei. The event is to be organised by Harun's Gym in collaboration with the Brunei Darussalam National Weightlifting Body and Powerlifting Association, which is affiliated with the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council.
He also aims to compete at the international championship in the future.
The owner of Harun's Gym, Awg Harun bin Hj Ahmad who is also the vice president of the Brunei Darussalam National Weightlifting Body and Powerlifting Association also attended the Miri event as an invited judge.
